It has a light brown to brown color, which after exposure to the sun turns brown-red<\/strong>, the characteristic color of Afzelia<\/strong> wood, which is the main characteristic of its beauty.<\/p>\n

It is a wood with a high density of 0.67<\/strong> to\u00a00,82\u00a0g\/cm3<\/span><\/strong>, <\/span>relatively high hardness <\/strong>and dimensional stability<\/strong> if properly dried. It has excellent resistance<\/strong> to time, wood-eating insects and fungi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Machining<\/strong> is difficult with machines and hand tools. The gluing process<\/strong> is also difficult. Painting<\/strong> and finishing<\/strong> are trouble-free and give excellent results.<\/p>\n

The Afzelia<\/strong> tree is also called the Mahogany of Africa<\/strong>. Unfortunately, its cultivation in plantations is limited and the species is considered endangered.<\/p>\n

Some species of Afzelia have medicinal uses because its leaves, bark and wood contain valuable extracts. The complex chemical compound Afzelin which is a pigment belonging to the flavanols, is contained in the extracts of the species.<\/p>\n
