Historical findings for the study of the stars<\/strong> exist from the<\/strong> Sumerian era<\/strong> and continue sporadically until the Hellenistic era<\/strong>. The phases of the Moon in particular appear to have been recorded even as far back as the Neolithic Age<\/strong> as human communities struggled to find a system for measuring time. However, the first clear references to the zodiac appear in Mesopotamia<\/strong>, between 700 and 500 BC, which shows us that the zodiac was something that was discovered in recent historical times. The ancient Babylonians are the first to notice the planets and give them attributes of their gods. These qualities were later differentiated by the Greeks based on the qualities of their own gods, but the differences in some cases were not great.<\/p>\n

Herodotus in 450 BC attributes to the ancient Egyptians the ability to predict the future<\/strong>, based on their day of birth. This reference shows that Astrology existed in Egypt before it was introduced to the Greek area.<\/p>\n

Astrology is based on the geocentric system<\/strong>. Earth is placed at the center of the universe and is surrounded by seven planetary orbits. The seven planets from closest to farthest are: Moon<\/strong>, Mercury<\/strong>, Venus<\/strong>, Sun<\/strong>, Mars<\/strong>, Jupiter<\/strong> and Saturn<\/strong>. Each planet rules or co-rules each of the 12 signs.<\/p>\n
