He was born on <strong>August 15, 1912<\/strong> and died on<strong> August 13, 2004<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19487 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-01.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-01.jpg 551w, https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-01-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 551px) 100vw, 551px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Julia Child<\/strong> grew up in a family that had a cook, but learned to cook when she met <strong>her husband, Paul<\/strong>, who grew up in a family that was very interested in food.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In World War II she joined the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) where she was soon given a responsible position as a top secret investigator, working directly for the head of the OSS, General William J. Donovan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19489 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"553\" height=\"293\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-02.jpg 553w, https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-02-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 553px) 100vw, 553px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When <strong>Julia Child<\/strong> was asked to solve the problem of too many underwater OSS explosives being set off by curious sharks, &#8220;<strong>her solution was to experiment with cooking various concoctions as shark repellents<\/strong>&#8220;, which were sprayed into the water near the explosives and repelled the sharks. The same are still used today. The experimental shark repellant &#8220;<strong>marked Julia Child&#8217;s first contact with the world of cooking&#8230;<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In 1951, he graduated from the prestigious <strong>Cordon Bleu<\/strong> cooking school in Paris and later studied privately with <strong>Max Bugnard<\/strong> and other master chefs. She joined the women&#8217;s cooking club <strong>Le Cercle des Gourmettes<\/strong>, through which she met <strong>Simone Beck<\/strong>, who was writing a French cookbook for Americans with her friend <strong>Louisette Bertholle<\/strong>. <strong>Beck<\/strong> <strong>suggested she work with Julia Child to make the book more appealing to Americans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19491 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-03.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"555\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-03.jpg 555w, https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-03-300x203.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><strong>Child<\/strong>, <strong>Beck<\/strong> and <strong>Bertholle<\/strong> began teaching cooking to American women in Child&#8217;s Paris kitchen, calling their informal school <strong>L&#8217;\u00e9cole des trois gourmandes<\/strong> (The School of the Three Food Lovers).<\/p>\n<p>They would sign a contract with publisher <strong>Houghton Mifflin<\/strong>, who later rejected the manuscript because it looked too much like an encyclopedia. Finally, when first published in 1961 by <strong>Alfred A. Knopf<\/strong>, the<strong> 726-page Mastering the Art of French Cooking<\/strong> became a bestseller and received critical acclaim, stemming in part from American interest in French culture in the early 1960s.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19493 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-04.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"553\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-04.jpg 553w, https:\/\/manono.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Julia-04-300x228.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 553px) 100vw, 553px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Television shows will follow which will be a great success. Her last book was the autobiography: <strong>My Life in France<\/strong>, published posthumously in 2006 and written by her nephew Alex Prud&#8217;homme. The book chronicles Child&#8217;s life with her husband, Paul Cushing Child, in post-war France.<\/p>\n<p>Some more of her quotes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A cookbook is only as good as its poorest recipe.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>You don&#8217;t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces\u2014just good food from fresh ingredients.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>If you&#8217;re afraid of butter, use cream.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Always remember: If you&#8217;re alone in the kitchen and you drop the lamb, you can always just pick it up.
